Who is “The Color Blew“
The foundation for the formation of The Color Blew was laid in 2013 after the members where introduced by a mutual friend. A passionate musical collaboration was formed when Liaan Horton from South African hard rock band “Blacklist Rock” teamed up with Armando Santos and Marius Cronje both from fellow South African based band “Equils” to interpret and create aural art based on songs written by Liaan Horton. This union proved to be so successful that the band decided to make this collaboration permanent. In early 2014 “The Color Blew” soon started writing fresh alternative rock songs as a unit. The band was officially ready to carve its name into the South African music scene. The year 2015 saw The Color Blew playing shows in Gauteng, Mpumalanga, The Free State and The Eastern Cape. All of this done while writing and recording their debut material and trying to build a local and online fan base. Early 2016 saw the band recruit Lead Guitarist Timothy James Lotter, formerly from the east rand based band “Black Jacket”, further expanding the canvas for their unique aural art. Timothy brought his polished playing qualities to the unit and integrated seamlessly into the core vision of The Color Blew. The band sticks to its fundamental rule of working hard in the studio and playing hard on stage, no matter what the occasion The Color Blew holds nothing back…
The message is simple… The Color Blew represent depth and insight in a plastic over produced shallow sea of “radio music”… they provide the “alternative” the result when talent and passion combine with no preconceived notions, when music is acheter du cialis en ligne played and experienced for the mood, fuelled by the moment and ignited by passion What genre of music do you play?
We would like to think Alternative Rock but there are so many influences, predominantly grunge and punk undertones. But all in all we strive to create a sound that’s familiar to The Color Blew…if that includes even a Jazz Flavor.. So be it !
Can you tell us a bit about each member of the band?
Liaan Horton was born in a dusty mining town on the East Rand called Springs and soon realised he loved guitars more than toys at 13 he started his first band and aged 15 he was playing his original music to everyone who would listen from school yard to pubs and clubs. Success beckoned with bands like Zen, Raizing Kain and DBM in the early 2000’s before releasing an E.P. with hard rock band Blacklist Rock in 2008, this album also included a song called God Knows that made it on to the soundtrack of the hit American TV series “Dexter”. The band decided to take a break in 2013 and this led to him being introduced to his band mates in The Color Blew Armando Santos Was born in Portugal and probably would have played cool Latin funk- given half the chance….instead fell into a rudimentary (semi-painful) school-band side drumming phase which further evolved into his unique style of sedimentary rock. He played in the band “De Rigieur “- recorded at Steeldale EMI Studios with Chris Wright, Damian Ryan, Sam Van Rensburg and Pieter Smit. The Works Department was the next group for Armando they ended up recording at Downtown Gallo Studios in Johannesburg with Chris Wright and a contingent of the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra. This project was masterfully engineered and produced by Richard Austin. This led to the formation of Equills with Marius Cronje, this combination would eventually evolve into the rhythm section of The Color Blew
Marius Cronje initially from Heidelberg brought his energetic groove based playing style into the band “Equills” and seamlessly fitted into a unique three finger style lead-type bass accompaniment. As a musician he grew immensely during this period and ended up finding his niche along with his fellow band mates in The Color Blew. He is also affectionately known as “George” in the band.
Timothy James Lotter originally from a small town called Nigel joined his first band at the tender age of 10. He started gigging regularly soon afterwards and has played a number of shows with a couple of bands including “Black Jacket” amongst others before his 18th birthday! His talent is undeniable as he brings his unique playing style and technical skillset to The Color Blew, integrating perfectly and lending “color” to the solid foundation laid by his band mates in The Color Blew
